Using locator Files at vsk-aus.com
We are utilising some Downloads software that has some tight security around it. The previous version of vsk-aus.com was not able to limit these downloads and as such was a victim of leeching.
While we encourage our members to Use Locator Files to maximise their bandwidth usage etc - there have been some changes to the process for the New Site.
Firstly, Upload your New Skin to the server as per normal.
Secondly - The site will rename your skin when you upload it. You need to have the skin on your computer with the name that the site has given it in order for the .loc file to work.
You can do this in one of two ways:
- either download your skin from the site - this will mean you have two skins now, one with your original name (which you may like to delete or move to avoid confusion) and one with the name the site has given it.
- or, rename your skin file so it's name is the same as the name the site has given the skin file you uploaded.
The site changes the file name in several ways. Some examples are:
Thirdly, Click on the Link in the Left hand column to Download the LOC File. Be wary of the filename as it will look different to the name of your uploaded file.
Save this into the same directory as the original Skin on your computer.
Fourthly
Open VSK (whatever version) and Click Configure vsk, Click advanced settings, Click network to
- Select "Use locatorfiles"
- Select "Update from locatorfiles"
- Selext "Check for udates when getting online."
Start VSK and enter the game, Choose Multiplayer, Internet, vsk will now check for online updates.
In the following window download the updated skins.
Finally, Restart VSK and go back in to select your downloaded Skins.
To avoid downloading possibly updated skins at the start of a race always look for updates when getting online. When you are sure you have the latest skins (once updated) you can turn off "checking for updates when getting online" to speed up getting to the vsk-session-server.
