Doing your Pens R44.2
After getting well clear of other boats as soon after the incident as
possible, a boat takes a Two-Turns Penalty by promptly making two
turns in the same direction, including two tacks and two gybes. When
a boat takes the penalty at or near the finishing line, she shall sail
completely to the course side of the line before finishing.
Obviously in VSK land we do only one turn
In teams Racing this is more important than fleet racing. All boats that receive a penalty from not keeping clear must get well clear of the fleet ASAP and do their turn. This means that the very next thing that you do, is attempt to get clear of the fleet.
There have been several incidents in the past few weeks that have caused some tension in races from people not doing their turns immediately. The impact of this in teams is far greater than in Fleet racing as it can change the final result of the Race, not just the boats impacted
Although there is no room for redress in the championship we are asking that all teams make sure their team mates adhere to Rule 44.2 when applicale.
